June 14:  Albuquerque, NM to Santa Fe, NM

We took an open-air tram tour of Santa Fe to learn a little history and get an overview of the town and surrounding areas.  We toured the Palace of the Governors, but the docent droned on and on in a monotone, making the visit painful.  We did enjoy seeing and hearing about the Segesser Hide Paintings that depict a battle from the early 1700s involving Spanish and French soldiers and their associated supporting different bands of Indians.

We also toured the Georgia O’Keefe gallery, but much of the museum was devoted to a temporary exhibition of Andy Warhol…I was disappointed.  We visited the beautiful St. Francis Cathedral right on the plaza and had lunch a in wonderful place called The Shed and stopped at the La Fonda Hotel where I had stayed on my trip in 1996 for a roof-top cocktail at the Bell Tower Bar.  The hotel is beautiful adobe and was a Harvey House hotel built at the end of the Santa Fe Trail.  We spent an afternoon exploring the art galleries on Canyon Road and saw lots of interesting sculptures and paintings that were beyond our budget..

June 16:  Santa Fe, NM to Cimarron, NM

We made the ½ day drive from Santa Fe to Cimarron so Jack could tour the Philmont Boy Scout Ranch that he had attended 50 years ago.  Unfortunately, they had lost all their photos and records from that time in a fire, but Jack did get a chance to meander around the base camp and talk to a few people about the old days.
